Wine of the Week

Heading into Thanksgiving, here are some of my picks:

Red

Tasting Note
Deep ruby coloured (mostly) Syrah with aromas of blackberry, white pepper, hickory smoke, dried black olive, tobacco and game. Dry with very good aroma replays on the palate. Moderate tannins and fresh acidity give it terrific balance. It is very tasty now (with grilled game bird or lamb chops), or cellar for 5+ years. (VINTAGES panel, Aug. 2011)

For the money, this wine is just delicious. My review on winealign.com:

White

Terra D'Alter Reserva White 2010 $13.95 (Portugal)

Tasting Note
Blending indigenous with international varieties is becoming a Portuguese specialty. In this case, they combined Arinto with Viognier to create this spice-, marmalade-, apple-, and sandalwood-scented wine. Dry and fresh with very good aroma replays. A great wine for sipping, or enjoy it with mildly spiced seafood dishes. (VINTAGES panel, June 2011)

Loved this little gem! Lots of tropical fruit with great acidity. For the money, this wine certainly packs in a lot of great stuff! This wine may be sold out in a lot of stores since it's from the last releaseMy review on winealign.com:
